Videos
I created these phenomena videos while piloting phenomena-based instruction in my classroom prior to the roll-out of the new Texas science TEKS in the fall of 2024. While I did not originally plan for them to be anything more, these small projects became the spark behind this entire website - growing into a bigger dream of building a place where teachers can find practical help and inspiration. They are simple, yet they capture the curiosity and sensemaking I love most about early elementary science. I am sharing them now in case they save you time, spark a lesson idea, or help your students see themselves as scientists.
Sensemaking starts here. Stay curious and wonder on. 😊
Phenomena Videos:
Anchoring Phenomena: How Objects Move
(following the old Kindergarten Science TEKS, using words like up, down, around, over, under, zig-zag)
Anchoring Phenomena: Basic Needs of Living Things
Anchoring Phenomena: Amazing Animal Skills
Investigative Phenomena: Heat Energy
Kindergarten Scientist Studies! We spent a week covering all of the scientists in the new TEKS. Here was our into video, not really phenomena, but the kids loved it and got really excited!!
Anchoring Phenomena: Carrying Capacity of Ants/Animal Behavior
This was not related to any specific TEK, I just thought it was a fun moment to capture in my backyard! Both myself and my kids were fascinated by the ant behavior. I created the video thinking that maybe someone could use it to teach 😉
